Therapeutic Horseback Riding

Therapeutic horseback riding helps clients with varying abilities develop self-awareness, build self-confidence, self-esteem, and improve concentration. Through horseback riding activities, riders can strengthen or relax muscles, and improve posture, core strength and balance. These activities also help increase coordination and joint mobility.

Testimonial

--My autistic son has been in one form of therapy or another since he was 5 years old, so when I told him we were going to start something new he was less than thrilled. From the moment we arrived at North Country RIDE and he saw other kids on the horses he had a smile on his face. To my surprise he was not afraid… he was excited and wanted to participate! Therapeutic riding has been a wonderful addition to his therapy plan. He always wants to know when he is going back.

Volunteers Needed!

Join the North Country RIDE team! We recommend that volunteers be 13 years old or older. Volunteers need to be comfortable around large animals, open to participating as a team member and ready and willing to learn. Youth volunteer opportunities depend on their maturity, abilities and interests.

Volunteers over the age of 18 must undergo a background check in addition to completing the Volunteer Form.

Volunteers are provided training and orientation prior to the season start up. Volunteers receive t-shirts to wear while working with our riders if they make a commitment to donate 20 hours or more during the program season.

Volunteer Leaders and Sidewalkers
We are looking for volunteers to be "Leaders" and "Sidewalkers." A LEADER leads the horse and takes care of the horse while clients are riding. They also gather and bring the horses into the arena area at the start of class. SIDEWALKERS walk along side the horse, on each side, to assist the rider and watch out for the horse's welfare.

Whatever your talents are...
we have a place for you too. We can always use help around our grounds and facilities including repair, maintenance, lawn care, and gardening. Administrative and promotional help is always appreciated too!

If you have an idea on how you may help out, we welcome your thoughts!
